If you want proper bronze-die pasta, a wedge of real Parmigiano, prosciutto sliced to order or a decent Italian olive oil, the options thin out quickly, and a trip into Bukit Bintang for groceries is nobody’s idea of a good afternoon.

The pattern we see from both areas bears that out. Weekday orders tend to be pantry restocks and a meal for the evening. Weekend orders are for entertaining, with boards, wine and something for the table. • About one hour from order to doorstep.
• Same-day delivery on orders placed before our 6:15pm cut-off. After that, it arrives the next day.
• Free delivery on orders over RM400. Below that, a delivery charge applies depending on your postcode.
• Perishables packed cold, with ice packs and insulation, so cheese and charcuterie arrive in the condition they left in.
• No Sunday or public holiday delivery, so plan Sunday lunches on Saturday.

What travels well, and what to order fresh

Not everything behaves the same on a delivery run, so it helps to know what to expect.

Travels perfectly: pasta, rice, oils, vinegars, tinned tomatoes, sauces, coffee, snacks and wine. These are cupboard goods and arrive exactly as they left.

Travels well when packed cold: hard cheeses, cured meats, olives and butter. All of these come with ice packs and insulation, and the run out to Bangsar or Mont Kiara is short enough that they arrive properly chilled.

Getting into a condominium

Worth a word, since much of Mont Kiara and a good deal of Bangsar lives in high-rise. Add your tower name, unit number and any access notes at checkout, along with a contact number, since most buildings will hold our driver at the guardhouse or lobby rather than sending them up.

If your building requires visitors to be registered in advance, do that before your delivery window. And if you’re ordering wine, remember someone of legal drinking age needs to receive it in person, so a lobby drop-off won’t work for those orders.

Both neighbourhoods are full of households that cook the same handful of dishes on rotation, which is where a standing order pays off. Work out the six or seven things you genuinely use, pasta, oil, passata, Parmigiano, coffee, and order them together every few weeks rather than in dribs and drabs. You’ll clear the free-delivery threshold more easily, and you’ll never be halfway through a recipe missing the one thing that matters.

It’s worth adding the fresh items to the same order only when you’ll use them within a day or two. Everything else keeps happily for weeks, so a larger, less frequent order is almost always the better approach: fewer delivery charges, less thinking, and a cupboard that quietly handles dinner on the nights nobody planned one.
